Angelo
Angelo is the story of an African who is Europeanised by force. At the beginning of the 18th century, as a child, he is taken by forece from his homeland and, after being sold, given the eponymous name through the sacrament of baptism. It is the story of a man who, in a career unsual for his time, went from being ob-ject to subject to object again. A story of becoming human that is marked above all by role-play and con-formity. It is inspired by the few surviving records of the life of the Viennese courtmoor Angelo Soliman.Angelo, like Schleinzer´s debut film Michael, is a film about an outsider. Another story about the non-existent, the disguised, the so difficult task of coming to terms with the Other, the Foreign – and hence about the difficulty of coming to terms with ourselves and our actions.
