The Remains

Thousands of people taking the Aegean route to Europe have come to death or are missing. The film recounts what is mostly left out in the media: what happens to the dead bodies and who helps to trace missing people so that families can be reunited?The Remains portrays helpers who play a central role in the search for missing persons: a handful of exceptional physicians, forensic experts and interpreters as well as NGO staff in Vienna and Greece. What is the motivation of these unusual helpers for their work? How do you deal with the many experiences in which you were directly confronted with death and suffering?The film explores these questions and shows how the everyday life of our society has changed as a result of the flood of refugees.
